A PGx Testing Centre of Excellence in Norfolk

AttoDiagnostics was recently featured as a leader in Innovation by North Norfolk District Council. Our Chief Scientific Officer, Prince Agyirey-Kwakye was interviewed onsite at Scottow Enterprise Park.

Interview with Prince Agyirey-Kwakye

The first time I came to Norfolk, I was struck by the countryside—it gives you a sense of mental resolution, personal well-being, and a connection back to nature. I'm Prince Agyirey-Kwakye, the Chief Scientific Officer of The AttoGroup at AttoDiagnostics. Our mission is to advance personalised healthcare.

When someone isn’t feeling well, there are many factors to consider. A typical approach by a healthcare practitioner is to start with a first-line drug. If it doesn’t work, they may change the prescription after a month or two. This trial-and-error process can sometimes take two to three months before a patient finds the medication that truly works for them.

But with pharmacogenomics (PGx), a GP can determine—before prescribing anything—which medication will work best for that individual. This means:

  • Faster recovery times

  • Reduced medication waste

  • Lower risk of adverse drug reactions

When the government announced plans to integrate genomics into routine healthcare, they estimated that everyone should have easy access to a genetic test to guide their treatment choices. However, the average cost of PGx testing on the market today is very expensive.

The Future of Personalised Prescribing

Now, at AttoDiagnostics, we have launched a cost-effective pharmacogenomic test that analyses over 120 genetic markers, covering nearly all major medications. PGx is the future of healthcare, with the potential to save the NHS over £2 billion a year. For Mental Health conditions, our PGx test costs £299.

At AttoDiagnostics, we are proud to be at the forefront of this field. Our facility provides the perfect environment for innovation and growth. Norfolk is not just a great place for startups, but also for established pharmaceutical companies, offering ample space and opportunity to scale.

We are leading the way—shaping the future of personalised medicine.
