Education
Polypharmacy patients take several medications for multiple conditions. Gene-drug interactions offer guidance into individual medication choices, but drug-drug pharmacokinetic interactions, which account for 20 - 30% of potentially serious events, can also come into play.
Education
In terms of laboratory accuracy, genotyping these markers is over 99% reliable. But the clinical value depends on the strength of evidence for each drug-gene pair. Some drugs have 100s of studies supporting the evidence for the drug-gene interactions, so the clinical actionability is very robust. Other pathways and drugs have less evidence, so the guidance is for information purposes only.
